About Me
Welcome to my home on the Internet. I'm a digital humanist interested in classical literature, science fiction, fantasy, and poetry; comparative linguistics; video games including VR simulations, roguelikes, and classic first-person shooters; various subgenres of EDM and metal music; and using semicolons as some sort of "super-comma" in a long list that already employs commas in its compound prepositional objects.
My Dissertation
I completed my doctoral dissertation in 2015 in Texts & Technology at the University of Central Florida entitled The Practice and Benefit of Applying Digital Markup in Preserving Texts and Creating Digital Editions: A Poetical Analysis of a Blank-Verse Translation of Virgil’s Aeneid. I digitized a late-1700s English translation of Virgil's classic by the Reverend James Beresford and marked it up for poetic analysis using a customized XML schema following the guidelines established by the Text Encoding Initiative. That single-source XML document is presented in two different platforms: the eXtensible Text Framework (XTF) and the TEI Boilerplate.
